As we sit at home on this 10 year anniversary of 9/11 I am reminded of that day. I can't believe all these years have gone by. I have never felt like we could ever be threatened on U.S. soil. I remember going in for a meeting with our principal and he had a little TV playing. We had no idea yet. The world was still in shock...was it an accident? How could you make such a serious mistake to run into one of the towers? Then, the 2nd plane hit and I was still naive to believe it was something other than America being attacked. What a long, saddening day....kids were being picked up all day and we weren't allowed to share what had happened. So, kids had questions, we had fear, and the day lasted forever. Houston was on the list of cities to be concerned about being attacked, which made it even more scary.
That night, the silence was deafening as no planes flew through the sky and everything was grounded for several days. The reality of what was ahead of us slowly sank in and the United States would stand stronger, prouder, but would never be the same.
May are memories never slip. I hear on the radio that schools should teach what happened on 9/11. Maybe schools should, but so should parents. It is our job to educate our children about this great nation. The requirements of a teacher are burdening and what we (teachers) should be teaching is sometimes pushed to the side to meet the requirements. Basically, if it's not an objective it is more than likely not taught.
So, today I will remember what happened in our country 10 years ago and know I am thankful I live in a country as great as ours!

New Job
I started my 'new' job this week. I am learning to get used to the 'cubicle' world. It is very different, but it is getting better each day. I have adopted another group as my room is not set up. They had the wrong parts for the cubicles so we are waiting for the right parts to come in.
The hardest part is adjusting to my new hours. I work til 4:30 instead of 3:45. To most it is not a big deal, but to the day care it is. So, I have to rush out of here to get Shelby. It is 45- 1 hr drive depending on traffic and where I am at when I get off work. I travel a lot throughout the day, so that takes some getting used to as well.
My new job will require me to go to various campuses to train teachers or assist them with integrating technology. I'll also have more time to create content, research and some other important components of a "Educational Technology Specialist". I will miss working with the kids consistantly, but I'm looking forward to change as well.
All in all, I'm really enjoying the new job and I'm thankful for that!
Other than me being back to work, we are dealing with SUPER HOT TEMPERATUERS. Ugh....It has been a very hot summer and this week it is in the 100s everyday. That's w/o heat index. So, I'm officially ready for cooler temps. Unfortuantely I have at least a month before that happens.

Calgary!
(I had some issus with my INternet, so I'll post the other pics next week. ) I made it safely to and from Calgary, Alberta Canada for "The Summit" which was hosted by SMART Technologies (www.smarttech.com). What an amazing week of meeting new friends and learning new information. Sunday I arrived around 2:30 and greeted by one of SMART's own, Laura. She then took us via bus to the hotel. We met at 6 pm for dinner and an introduction from a few of the SMART peeps. Afterwards we had the opportunity to watch a movie as a group or go out on our own. Since it was the last day of the Calgary Stampede (the world's biggest outdoor show), I opted for #2. I then rounded up a couple of more people (Ann and Joe) to join me in the Stampede adventure. I had missed the rodeo, but was still able to make it there for the chuck wagon races and the big show. I new friends quickly learned how much of a rodeo fan I am and how much I was in my own element. So we wondered around and then went in to watch the chuck wagon races and "Volte" the big show (much like Circus Du Soleil). WOW WOW WOW is all I can say!
We bought standing room only tickets, but then wondered off into the seats to find some open seats. We got front and center for most of the show. We REALLY lucked out!
Monday we started bright and early - 7 AM to get together for breakfast and get started on our training. We spent the day learning and sharing as we did for most of the week. I got so much information and I can't wait to put it to good use.
Monday evening was a freebie, so some of us gals went out to dinner. After dinner 3 of us took the train to downtown Calgary. It was around 9 pm and the town was very quiet, but we kept walking. We then stumbled upon the stree that had several restuarants as well as ~10 of the other people from my group which included a few from other countries. We had a lot of laughs on the "All You Can Eat Bologna" as the guys from Madrid and Paris tried it for the first time. We tried to warn them!
Tuesday evening we went to a local bar for the "80s Hair Band" - "Boy Toyz". They played some awesome 80s music and our group had a lot of fun hanging out! I also learned how potent Canadian beer is. Yickes!
Wednesday we had a Murder Mystery. That was A LOT of fun and we laughed a lot with all their silly antics!
Thursday evening we went to a Wild West Show just outside of Clagary. They do something similar to what we do at the George Ranch only at a smaller scale. We were also given a white cowboy hat and named "honorary Calgarians".
Friday we went to Banff and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the mountains and enjoyed some shopping.
Friday evening we went to a Piano Bar and enjoyed our last evening together as a group. I also tried a new drink Tuaco and 7 Up. It was very yummy!

Long time, no write
It seems the older Shelby gets the less time I have to dedicate to little things like this blog. I have enjoyed writing here and saving it for Shelby when she gets bigger. Somehow, life keeps happening and it seems something that takes 10 minutes is no longer doable.
This summer has been VERY busy for us! We grew a really nice garden and did a lot of canning. We have lots of stewed tomatoes with vegetables, tomato sauce, salsa, and pickles. Yum! We have enjoyed eating the canned goods as well as sharing them. We also have lots of jalepenos we are freezing and we hope to make some pickled okra.
The summer garden was such a success we've decided to attempt putting in a fall garden too. :)
Shelby continues to grow and learn. It amazes me how much she has learned this summer and what she can do now verses just a couple of months ago. Her vocabulary continues to grow and she has a great memory, which is really nice since mine seems to be dwindling these days. Shelby loves the animals and has grown particularly fond of all of our kittens. We have 3 mommas with 5-6 kittens EACH! Needless to say, we are weeding out. We are working on giving them all away except one or two male cats. One of them is Shelby's favorite kitten. She named him Bambino. He is a siamese looking kitten and let's Shelby drag him all over our property - to the barn, the house, around the yard. He just hangs out. So, we decided to keep him.
Barrel racing is going ok this year. Badger has an issue and needs 6 months off. It is nothing serious, he just needs time for it to heal. I was bummed because we were 3rd in the 1D with NBHA TX 34. So, Shiner has stepped up to the plate and has done really well for me. He is slowly moving up the ranks in speed and we are becoming a better team each time we run. We had a minor set back last weekend as he seemed sore and stiff. So, I took him to the vet. We are hoping some new shoes (to change the angle of his hoof) will help him out. If not, doc says it is inbetween his years. LOL I have some supplements that should help with that. Shiner has a VERY strong personality so I wouldn't be surprised.
I also took in two colts to break this summer. I really needed to focus on mine, but with our trip to Michigan I thought I'd do that so we could go and really enjoy ourselves. They are coming along nicely. I'm finishing up my first 30 days on them. We'll probably put 30 more days and then they'll go back to their owner.
Speaking of Michigan - We had a GREAT time visiting with my family around the 4th of July. We took 8 days to visit family and friends and spent a couple of days in Mackinaw City. It is so beautiful in Michigan this time of year. The weather was awesome too. The break from our record breaking heat has been nice. Shelby LOVES To swim. Put some floaties on her and all you hear is "Look Mom, I'm a fish!" If we had a pool I don't think we'd ever get her out of it.
Tomorrow I leave for Calgary. I'm going to a 6 day training with SMART Technologies. It is a company that makes great hardware for kids. I applied to attend and was one of 50 chosen in North America (and 5 from other countries). It is all expense paid trip including a day in Banff, Alberta Canada. I've checked out the pictures and they are AMAZING! I don't know of a place in the USA as beautiful as that place! I can't wait to see it with my own eyes!
My job is changing. They cut our department in half from 50 to 26 of us. So, we will be in one location at a middle school in Sugar Land, TX. I'll work more days (211 vs 189) and my duties will change quite a bit. I'm blessed to have a job, so I'm not going to complain. :)
Ryan has been busy working and doing some hunting. His hobbies seem to be more hanging out with his dogs in the evenings and feeding our piglets. We got 5 of them, but only 3 our left. One died in their pen and the other one was killed by the horses when they got out one day. The others are doing fine and hopefully learned their lesson and will stay in their pen.
I guess that is it in a nutshell. I hope to keep up with this again. I so enjoy sharing our adventures and I know Shelby will enjoy reading them when she gets older.

Easter Weekend
We had a very busy and fun Easter weekend. Ryan’s parents flew in on Wednesday night. They hung out with Shelby on Thursday while Ryan and I worked. That evening Nancy and I went to a birthday party for one of Shelby’s friends. It was fun eating hamburgers, hot dogs, and cake while visiting with some friends and watching the little ones play.
Friday afternoon I went to Wharton to get my hair cut/highlighted and then donated blood afterwards while the other Boudries hung around the house, worked on the garden as well as some other miscellaneous stuff to get ready for our crawfish boil. That evening we had some church friends over and everyone enjoyed a lot of crawfish and a little dessert and taco soup. We had so much fun visiting, going for ‘pony rides’ and singing with Amy’s guitar. What a special night!
Saturday was shopping day for Nancy and me. We got a really late start because I woke up with a TERRIBLE migraine. I couldn’t function most of the morning and finally found relief with Ryan adjusting my back and some migraine medicine. Enough, anyhow, to go to our neighbor’s who is a chiropractor. She adjusted my neck and said it was REALLY bad. I was still sore most of the day, but did find relief as the day went on. Nancy and I had to go shopping because I still needed Easter things and clothes. We also went to the Sears outlet to find a washing machine since mine was leaking. My original (whirlpool) washing machine was at least 20+ years old. So, it had done its time. I have had a lot of good luck with Kenmore so I decided to buy a Kenmore this time. So far, so good!
Sunday was Easter, so we were up early to go to church for a continental breakfast and Easter egg hunt before service. That was a lot of fun and we enjoyed the message Pastor Dave shared with us. Afterwards we went home so Shelby could nap and then came back to town to eat out at Saltgrass Steakhouse. (Yummy!)
Monday was more low key. I was pretty worn out from all our activities and was ready to sit home. So that’s just what I did. Nancy and I were able to go for a nice ride in the back pasture. We just walked and talked. It was so nice just to relax and enjoy the horses. I haven’t had much time for them lately. Afterwards, we played with Shelby and cleaned up the house until nap time When Shelby went down for a nap it was time for me to clean up and get ready for our photo shoot. My friend is a photographer so we had her come out to take pictures of all of us. We had not had professional pictures of Shelby taken or any family pictures taken so we thought this would be a good time to do it. The pictures are AWESOME and I’m so excited to get them printed and hung. I sure hope I can find the time to do it soon.
So, that was our weekend in a nutshell. It was busy as it always is when Dick and Nancy come to town, but a nice weekend with family.

Nothing New...
There has not been a whole lot going on these last few weeks. We've been busy with normal life, but not anything too exciting.
Our garden is slowly growing. I am thankful nothing has (knock on wood) died. We have everything planted now...three rows of corn, 1/2 a row of cucumbers, a row of beans, 1/2 row of dill weed and cilantro, 17 tomato plants, 1/2 a row of squash, watermelon, jalepenos, and bell peppers...oh and some onions...I think that is everything.
We have not seen rain in MONTHS and it is showing. The ground is cracking and the grass is crackling. We are getting pretty desperate for rain and still none planned for at least another 10 days. Not good!!! We've even started letting the horses come out by the house and front yard just to give them some more grass.
This week we are looking forward to a visit from Dick and Nancy. We have lots of fun things planned including a crawfish boil, some shopping for Easter, an Easter dinner, riding horses and who knows what else. We are all looking forward to the visit.

Garden is Growing
Our garden is doing fairly well this year. It is twice the size but we are able to manage it. We still have a few crops that our friend is growing in his greenhouse. He said they'll be available next weekend. He has helped us put tremendously by giving out seeds a good foundation and start. It males growing them so much easier.

Sobering Times
Friday turned out to be a very difficult day. My district layed off ~115 teachers, including 17 ITS (my job). It was hard to hear my friend's say they got the phone call and had to go in immediately only to find out they have been layed off. I left work feeling sad and sick to my stomach. I am thankful I (so far) have made it through the cuts, but it was definately a reality check of times and how terrible they are. Saddening...
Please pray for our district as well as districts across the state and nation. These are tough times as state and federal governments continue to cut funds to our public schools leaving our teachers and students without...teachers w/o a job and students without the education they once knew as we make cuts to various departments.
Ryan and I, too, have begun to make cuts. We are in the process of selling some horses and try to simplify. We have put in a larger garden with the hopes of canning and freezing food for the upcoming winter. It will help if we can eliminate some grocery costs.
We are also in the process of selling our rent house. Our renters are looking into getting a morgage, so we hope to take that off our plates as well! We'll know5 more in a few weeks, but we are hopful as it benefits us and our renters. THey are wonderful people and we were so blessed they found us and our rent house. It took a few renters and some really hard times, but it was worth the wait. God's plan is always better, we just can't always see it until later on. This rent house as taught me that to be the case.
Well shelby wants to snuggle ans watch a video so i am signing off.

Badger is 3rd in 1D
I am so proud of Badger! He is currently in the 1D standings for NBHA TX 34. I know most of you, if not all of you, are not barrel racers and probably don't get the whole 1D, 2D, etc thing...just know this is a REALLY big accomplishment for both of us! I am so, so, so proud of him and honored that he works so hard for me. :)
1st place has 14 pts, 2nd has 9 and we have 7 points.
To briefly explain, 1D is the fastest division of the divisions and it's more for the elite horses. It is a tough place to be, espcially for where we live. So, I am very, very proud of him. :)
In other horse news, I have begun working Shiner to the left. He was having some issues and it was getting to be too difficult to change so we changed to a new direction, literally. Most horses go to the right barrel first and then left, but there are a few that just work better the opposite way. It is much like a person who is right handed vs. left handed...only the opposite for horses. There are more left handed horses than right.
Anyhow, I worked him for the first time that way on Saturday and I hope to get some time this week to work him some more before Sunday's race. If not, it might be interesting! HAHA
Cowgirl, my little mare, is doing well too. I decided to put a tie down on her Saturday. I think it will benefit us, but I am not sure yet. So, we'll see...
Both of these horses (Cowgirl and Shiner) are for sale. I will be sad to see them go. It may take a while to sell them, though, since times are so tough right now.
Shelby continues to grow everyday and talk even more. Today I had a good 5 minute conversation with her on the way home from work. She talked the whole time. It was very cute! Spring Break - Fun & Sun!
We had a fun, but very BUSY spring break last week. Shelby and I spend the beginning of the week enjoying our free time and shopping. Shelby definately takes after her Aunt Shelly (my sister) and her cousin, Heather (Ryan's cousin). She LOVED shopping and looking at everything! All I heard was "Come on Momma" as she raced around the store and looked at all the 'pretties' (aka jewelry, shoes, etc) She has a very girly side to her. :) She loves to wear dresses, pretty shoes, and jewelry. So, she had a great time as I let her dress up each day while on vacation.
On Wednesday, I left in the morning to do some shoppign with a co-worker/friend. We went to the mall, enjoyed a good lunch, and then went to Sear's Outlet mall by the Hobby airport in Houston to shop for a dishwasher. Fortunately, I had done a little research and was able to quickly find the one I wanted. The best part was I got it 40% off because of some TINY little dent in the front that I have to look for everytime I try to find it. :)
Finding the dishwasher proved to be the easy part. Our 'easy' switching of dishwashers proved to be a bit more challenging as we discovered we didn't have all the parts and we had to turn the water off to the house for the evening. hahaha...BUT we got it in the next day after some use with a saw and wrenches. We did it ourselves! That's a big deal for Ryan and me.
Shelly, my sister, flew in on Wednesday night to spend the rest of the week with us. We hung out on the house on Thursday during the day, but went to the George Ranch to ride in the evening. Shelly got to ride Badger. She hadn't been on a horse in 20+ years (I think it's been a lot longer, but we couldn't remember). She did a few laps around and then got off for fear of being too sore to enjoy the rest of her vacation. I thought she was smart for doing that. :)
Friday we hung out around the house dealing with the dishwasher issue and then left around 2 pm to go to Rodeo Houston. We had a great time eating good food, looking at all the stuff and then the rodeo and concert in the evening. I hadn't seen Allan Jackson so it was great seeing him in concert.
Saturday and Sunday was a day filled with basking in the sun and a barrel race. My horses worked REALLY well on Saturday! Badger was just out of the money in the 1D. I was soooo proudof him! Shiner was in the middle of the 2D which was great too as he was in the 4D the week before. He took off a second and a half in one week. Impressive!
Sunday, we went to church and then Shelly, Shelby and I headed back to the barrel race to run again. Again, Badger was JUST out of the 1D money. Shiner did well on the 1st and 2nd barrrel, but we had a terrible 3rd barrel and lost way too much time. He would've been at the top of the 1D if it wasn't for that.
Sunday night we rested around the house and chilled out outside watering the garden and playing with the dogs. We then went in and rested while we looked at the pictures from our exciting week together.
This morning, I took Shelly back to the airport. A sad good bye as I miss seeing her and spending time with her. I am so glad she made it down for a visit! I look forward to a visit with her again next year. Ron said he's not missing out next year. hahaha...So, hopefully the two of them will be able to join us for a nice visit next spring.

Busy Weekend
This weekend was fun and the weather was fabulous!!! Friday, Ryan and some of his friends set out to the fields and pastures around our area for a hog hunting tournament. They started out strong getting 4 hogs within the first 15 hours, but didn't have much luck after that. The weather changed from warm to cold and yucky and then sunny and windy. That probably had something to do it with it. It was a long weekend for Ryan, but they made it through and although they didn't win anything they still provided some hogs to feed the hungry. (This tournament donates all hogs to feed the hungry.)
Shelby and I went to one of my BFF's houses on Friday evening. We ate and hung out and enjoyed good friends til she got tired and we had to go home. I then enjoyed a peaceful evening to myself. On Saturday I had a barrel race in Wharton. I was going to take two horses, but with the funky weather and Shiner was being really squirrely I decided to only run one horse. Badger and I have been missing the first barrel and clocking 2/10ths or so slower than we should. So, I decided to exhibition him. (practice run) The exhibitions did not go well and I was frustrated, but manage to shake it off. I told myself to bad exhibition runs meant one good open run. I was right! Badger and I nailed the first and we had really nice 2nd and 3rd turns. I was thrilled to have such a smooth run. We clocked better than I thought we would. That's how smooth it was! The competition was tough and we still were at the bottom of the 1D. No money, but we are on our A game again. I'll take that!
I was looking on line and found this for NBHA (one of the circuits I run)...and feel pretty good about it. 1D horses are the fastest horses and look where we are sitting! If we hadn't hit the barrel last time, perhaps we would've had even more points....

This week is my last week before Spring Break and I am sooooo ready for it! I'm at the school w/less students so hopefully it won't be too busy. I have some projects planned to do w/the teachers and I'm excited to do that...
Next week will busy with all the things on my 'to do' list and my big sis, Shelly coming to visit me. It's her first time flying and coming to see me in TX! We both are super excited! We are going to go to the Houston Rodeo and hit two barrel races the weekend she is here. Poor girl! She can't wait to play with Shelby and give her all the shoes she found. Shelby and Shelly share a bond with shoes. hehehe....

High Fever + 5 Days = Long Week
Shelby started getting warm on Sunday. By Monday she had a high fever and it has been with us all week. SO, Ryan and I have been swamping out 1/2 days with work to go home and take care of her. Then, Wednesday he took the whole day off and I took all day off yesterday. I am hopeful today we'll be back to normal.
Lucky for us it was just a high fever and Motrin did the job of keeping it under control. Shelby did the best she could with being sick and really struggle understanding why she felt the way she was. Poor thing, I had to explain she was sick and this is what it felt like.
By Wednesday she started feeling better, even though she had a fever. SHe was asking to see her daycare friends and care takers. Ryan and I are just not that exciting. Yesterday, I had to go to town for my work evaluation and on the way she would cover her eyes for a few seconds then uncover them and say "Ms. Kat, where are you?" LOL That's one of her daycare teachers.
Hopefully she'll get to go back today.
Last weekend we had our big Barrel Bang fundraiser for the Rodeo Sweethearts. We raised $1753 for the youth. So, yea for us! I was in charge of it so it was a long, gruling day along with the week before as I took in pre exhibitions and entries. It was a big success, so I was very happy!
THis weekend Ryan decided yesterday to go to a hog hunting tournament. Kinda sucks he decided last minute, but we'll make it work. He'll be gone basically all weekend which leaves me on my own with horses and a toddler at a barrel race. Thank GOD for my wonderful friends at the barrel race. They help by taking care of her so I can run my horses.
Time to eat breakfast and get on my way to work. I'm sure I got plenty waiting for me from being out yesterday. I am thankful I can check my email messages from home. THat helps keep them under control. I get 100+ daily.

1 down, 2 to go
We sold a horse this past weekend. We have two more for sale so we hope to sell them in the future as well. One horse, Romeo, will need surgery before we can sell him. He is a stud and his 'goods' never dropped so we have to have surgery to go in there and get them out. I've been calling various vets to get the cost and will plan to do the surgery in the next couple of weeks, but probably over spring break since I'll be off. So far Texas A&M has the best price. A 2 hr drive, but worth it to save so much.
This past weekend was not a good barrel racing weekend. The ground was weird (sticky) and so Badger couldn't work as well as he wanted to. We had an ok time Saturday and hit Sunday. LOTS of people hit the same barrel. I know, because i volunteered to pick up that barrel and got little time to sit. So, something was definately weird about the ground.
This weekend is our big Rodeo Sweetheart fundraiser barrel race. I'm already getting pre-entries so I expect it to be a big race. We have a $1,000 added so that will definately help!
Shelby continues to grow and talk and talk and talk....it is so fun watching her learn and remember so much. She is remembering songs and where she puts things. It's so cool!

Busy 7 days!
I can't believe it's been a month since I've last posted on this blog. It seems life gets busier and busier and flies by faster each year. Oh, how I miss the days of when I thought summer would never end so I could see my friends again. Now, I long for the days of summer to get here so I can spend them quietly at home with Shelby, Ryan and the horses.
Last week was a VERY busy week for me. I went to Austin Tues - Friday for a technology conference in Austin, TX. It was my VERY first time leaving Shelby for more than just the day. I've never been without her at night. I was very proud of myself on how well I did and how refreshing it was to take that break from reality, even though it was a working break. Luckily for me, TCEA (the conference I attended) is extremely busy. You start your day with an 8 or 9 AM class and go til late into the evening between classes, vendors, and vendor activities after the classes are done.
I always have fun in Austin. It is like the NFR of Texas technology and the night life is just as fun. It's like a big reunion for all us geeks. hahaha....
I then came home (trying to control my speed) to Shelby running and hugging, and hugging and hugging me....I love that! She was glued to me the rest of the weekend.
Saturday Shelby and I went to a barrel race. She was so cute on how she LOVES to play with the other kids and look at all the pretty jewelry they sell. She is addicted to pretty and shiny things. Something that never really interested me, so it's fun seeing her own personality coming out so strongly. So many people love seeing her and spending time with her at the races. It's like a big party for Shelby. Putting her down for a nap can be a challenge because she doesn't want to miss out on anything. Luckily, I was able to get her down for a nap after much struggle about 20 or so minutes before I had to run. Phew!
Badger did really well. In fact, he was at the bottom of the 1D again with tough competition. So, hopefully we'll get some points since we didn't get any money. I put him on some herbs made by Silver Lining Herbs and I have seen such a difference with him. This new one I put him on a few weeks ago has helped him to stay much more focused and he is really running hard. He also seems to have more control of his legs and how he tracks, which helps tremendously with barrel racing.
Ryan went hog hunting for the first time on his own on Saturday as well. He was sooooo excited to have killed his first hog with his own dogs. Our 'puppies', who are about 70 lbs each now, did an awesome job hunting and were very successful. Ryan was so proud of his boys and their natural instinct. Here are a picture of him and the hog they killed.
Sunday, Shelby and I went to church and then we had another barrel race in Rosenberg. This time Ryan was able to join us. The first time I ran Badger the timer didn't work. So, they offered me a re-run. I wasn't going to take it because I had ran him on Saturday and then again on Sunday. Also, there wasn't much recovery time for Badger since I ran towards the end of the race. I also had not been on him that much since I was out of town all week. Anyhow, a friend of mine suggested asking if I could run after the seniors and youth. They let me, so I decided to go ahead and run again. It paid off! Badger was 4th in the 1D! He was the 4th fastest time of the day! The winning time was a 15.7, then there were two 15.8 and then Badger ran a 15.9. Woohoo! So proud of my boy!
We then ate a celebratory dinner at a local mexican restaurant and came home. Then it was back to being a mommy with giving Shelby a bath and getting her settled down for the night. A good way to spend a weekend!

Expensive Flights
I have begun to price airline tickets to MI. The prices are much more expensive than they were 2 years ago. I will be watching them closely and buy them when the price is at its best. We plan to fly from Houston to Detroit and then drive up. We will take advantage of our 1 free ticket (hopefully 2 tickets) with SWA.
Shelby is doing Very well. She has really started talking. Even more than before. Some of it is a jibberish talk but she knows exactly what she is saying. She'll even laugh at the end. It is so cute! The funniest thing she does is laugh and say 'That's Punny!' (aka funny)
She has also begin to ride by herself. She loves shiner. Of course he's our biggest and tallest horse (around 16.1/16.2 hands). It makes me nervous when she tells me to let go. Needless to say we are on a hunt for a pony. We are going to go look at one on Sunday
Work has been going well. We got our own video conferencing equipment on campus which allows us to meet with professionals and other students all over the country. We are doing a lot of science conferences with NASA. So cool!
The horses have been enjoying some time off due to our dreary, rainy weather. Their big bellies show the results of it. Back to work this week.

Words of Wisdom
I got this via email today and just had to share. So true! As I reflected on 2010 I realized how blessed we are. We had a year of health, mostly happiness, and we went without compared to many others. This year I am going to be content. When I am content, I am happy.
It's not what you have, what you don't have, what you want....it's about praising God right where you are at and being thankful for what you have...nothing else matters. I am blessed to have a healthy, thriving family. I need nothing more than what God has for me. Besides his desires for me are WAY bigger and better than what I could ever desire.
HANDBOOK 2011
Health :
1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.

First Day Jitters
I don't really know if it is first day jitters or just being out of tune with my horses, but we made it through either way. Yesterday was the first jackpot of the year. We had a lot of time off and it showed. I ran Shiner first. AS you know, the end of December I took him to the vet and had some work on him. It has proven to do him well, but he and I were off as a team. He had done so well in the practice pen I rode him as if that's where we were at. That wasn't good. This was a bigger pattern and he just didn't set very well. The good news is he didn't really fight me to stop and turn. So, all we need is some practice. Iplan to get some exhibitions for the next barrel race. I am sure that will help us make a really nice run!
Badger had a nice run, he just didn't clock like I wanted. He was at least a 1/2 second off. He also seemed to get hung up on the back of the 2nd and 3rd barrel. I'll assume it is because he has been off and as a team we have not practiced. TIme will tell....I sure hope it's not some sort of issue. Praying that we just need to get in tune with each other again.
The good news is even though we didn't do that well, we still came home with a check. God is good! Badger won some 3D money. Shiner was just out of the money in the 5D. (Like I said, not really a great run for either.)
The cold weather has arrived again today. The cold front this morning brought in dreary weather, rain and colder temps. The next few days will be much cooler with highs in the lower 50s and lows in low 30s (29 Tues. night). The cold and dreary weather makes us a little cranky. We so enjoy the sun. It is such a relief during the winter. Fortunatley, most days in Texas are sunny!
We did make it to church, but we really didn't do anything else today other than hibernate.
That's it for now. TIme to get back to Shelby and get ready to put her down for the night.

Barrel Season
I am super excited about the barrel season beginnign again. Here are a couple of videos we took yesterday. The grey horse is Shiner. He went to the vet recently and got some work done on him. He is doing much better and I can't wait to run him on Saturday to see what time he clocks.
The 2nd horse is my 3 YO, Cowgirl. I have her for sale, but I believe I am quickly changing my mind. She is still green, but shows so much progress so quickly. It blows my mind. She actually speeds up around the turns. She is pretty wicked!
